Excellence in Education - Carolyn Barla

Congratulations to Carolyn Barla, selected by Superintendent Jeremy Meyers as recipient of the Excellence in Education Award at the November 8 Board of Trustees meeting.
Carolyn is the definition of “Advocate for Students” in all she does for Golden Sierra Junior Senior High School.  Carolyn has built a network of local community support for students including Rotary International, Drug Free Divide, New Morning and the El Dorado County HUB, to name a few.
A month’s schedule for Barla includes overseeing the California Healthy Kids survey; hosting the Family and Student Support Team meeting comprised of representatives of the HUB, Drug Free Divide, nurses, New Morning and school counselors; providing students at Divide High with lessons around brain science and adverse childhood experiences by guest speaker Lisa Frederickson, followed up by presentations on resiliency by Jennifer Dwight-Frost; Peer Advocacy groups; helping students with the Halloween smoke free Kidszone on Church Street; and attending Georgetown School’s Unity Film Festival Kick-off.
As Meyers said, “Carolyn is the model for an Excellence in Education Award.  Her devotion to students is selfless. We are indebted to her for her tireless advocacy for students.”
