School Year Advisory Committee

A committee is in the process of being formed to review a variety of options for the district school year.  The district is being forced to form this committee in response to proposals by the Governor of California to shorten the school year.  We want to be prepared in case those proposals come to fruition.  We are seekng representatives throughout the district.

We want to ensure that we have the following representation on each committee:

  • two parents from each school site
  • two classified staff members from each school site
  • two teachers from each school site
  • principals from each school

Issues that will be discussed include, but aren't limited to:

1)  What would a four-day school week look like?  What are the strengths and limitations of that type of calendar?  What type of impact could that have on families, teachers, and staff?

2)  What would a shorter school year look like?  What are the strengths and limitations of that type of calendar?  What type of impact could that have on families, teachers, and staff?

3)  What would a blend of the four day and shorter school year look like?  What are the strengths and limitations of that type of calendar?  What type of impact could that have on families, teachers and staff?

The first date for this important committe was July 28th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the district office board room.  If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Tammy Gabel or Sherre Garcia via e-mail or by telephone at 530-333-8300.
