State Budget Effects on Black Oak Mine

Furlough Days

Dear Parents and Community Members;

This is a reminder that all schools and offices in the Black Oak Mine Unified School District will be closed from February 21st through 25th.  School will resume on Monday, February 28th.  The closure on the 21st is due to the Federal Holiday Washington's birthday.  On the 22nd schools are closed in observance of Lincoln's Birthday.

Schools and offices will be closed on the 23rd through the 25th due to lack of funding provided by the State of California.  Due to severe budget cuts we are unable to afford to keep our schools open for those three days.  Next year, we expect to have schools closed for five days due to lack of funding.

This serves as a reminder that it is important for parents and community members to reach out to their legislators to let them know their opinion about school funding.  We need your help to ensure that we are able to operate quality programs for kids.  If the proposed tax extensions are not placed on the ballot by California Legislators and if the voters don't approve the extension, we are facing extensive budget reductions which will have an even more devastating impact on our schools.

Information about the state budget crisis and how it has affected district schools and programs is available on the front page of the district website at www.bomusd.org.  We also encourage staff, community members and parents to participate in the District Budget Advisory committee and local school site councils.  Thank you for your support of our schools!

Sincerely,

Tammy J. Gabel, Ed.D.
